In order to advertise his new album “Magna Carta Holy Grail”, Jay-Z is teaming up with Samsung to give away a million copies to their cell phone users as a promotion.

The rapper announced this decision to partner up with Samsung in a three-minute commercial during the NBA finals. It is announced that the album will come out officially on July 7 but users of the Galaxy phone series can get it for free through a mobile application.

Within the commercial it shows Jay-Z personally  in the studio for his upcoming 12th studio album. Producers, Timberland, Rick Ruben, Swizz Beats, and Pharell are featured as integral parts of it’s development

Jay-Z states in the commercial “Pretty much what the album is about is this duality, how do you navigate your way through this whole thing, through success, through failures, through all this, and remain yourself.”

The only reference of Samsung came at the end with the company’s tagline “The Next Big Thing is Here” and a link that directs people to a website that explains how to download the album.

The influx of social media seemed to hold praise over the commercial. Jay-Z, Samsung, #MagnaCarta, & #MagnaCartaHolyGrail has continued to be trending topics around the world. Above that, many people and businesses alike are commenting over this announcement.

Album sales have dropped in recent years. According to Nielsen and Billboard’s Music Industry Report, overall album sales has declined from 458 million in 2011 to 450 million in 2012. However the partnership that both parties have made has given an insight into what is becoming within the music industry. That is corporate partners are playing an increasingly significant role in marketing with the music industry.
