As reported earlier, Taco Bell had a PR crisis beginning to brew on it’s hands. On June 2, a photo leaked on Taco Bell’s Facebook page of a franchise employee licking taco shells.

After I reported it on my site, I noticed the photo began to spread like wild fire. I reached out and contacted Taco Bell through Facebook and I got a response back yesterday.

The link that was attached to the comment directed me to their news room where they released a press release.

Through the document, this is what they said happened.

The company recently sent new taco shells to franchises across the country in March to practice on for a new product launch. Two employees then used these tacos to take a photo to enter into an internal contest which “company and franchise employees could submit for approval photos of themselves enjoying their first bite of the product.”

These two employees did not follow strict guidelines of the contest so they did not submit the photo. However, one of the employees uploaded the photo through Facebook which is where the crisis was born.

Taco Bell has issued that they have launched a full investigation on the matter and the employees that is in the photo has been suspended and is in the process of terminating his employment.
